As we approach the release of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and Season 3 of Bridgerton, I thought it would be lovely to fall back into this world and discuss what everyone is wearing.
My obsession with Bridgerton makeup runs deep and goes all the way back to Season 1 when the Makeup Design was done by Marc Pilcher who subsequently won an Emmy for his work on Bridgerton and then tragically passed away from Covid-19 just a few weeks later.
I immediately noticed a makeup change in Season 2 and after an unhealthy deep dive I discovered that the new Head of Makeup was Erika Okvist and she was using only Pat McGrath products that came courtesy of Pat McGrath herself. I have a lot of feelings, good and bad, about this new surge of “sponsored” products tied to shows but I won’t divulge those feelings right this moment. For now, let's get into how the makeup is different and what products were used on a few of the main female characters.
PENELOPE FEATHERINGTON
In Season 1, Penelope is wearing a lot of kit favorites like MAC Malt on the eyes, Bobbi Brown concealer, some brown mascara, Pixi Cheek Gel in Flushed topped with Stila Convertible Cream Color in Lillium on the cheeks and Charlotte Tilbury’s lip pencil in Pillow Talk over the entire lips. The makeup is simple in keeping with the Regency time period that the show is set.
However, as we move into Season 2 the makeup design changes and there is noticeably more makeup and, dare I say, a bit of glitter! The Makeup Designer Erika Okvist said that for Penelope she primarily used the Mothership VII: Divine Rose eye palette swept all over the eyes to give a soft pink hue. On the cheeks, she did a combination of Skin Fetish Divine Blush in Divine Rose and Nude Venus. The cheekbones were topped with the Skin Fetish Highlighter and Balm duo in Nude. She would use the balmy side for daytime scenes and the highlighter side for evening candle lit scenes. The main lip used was Lip Fetish Divinyl Lip Shine in Boudoir Rose.
Makeup looks would be tweaked and added to but these were the main products used throughout the entirety of Season 2. I am very curious to see what Penelope’s makeup will be and how it will change in Season 3 since it is primarily her love story that we will be watching unfold.
KATE SHARMA
Season 2 is our first time seeing Kate and her makeup does not disappoint! On both women, Erika primarily used the Mothership V: Bronze Seduction eye palette. The sentiment was the same in keeping the makeup rather simple until (SPOILER ALERT) Kate begins to fall in love and her base makeup look becomes a bit more elegant and noticeable. For cheek color, Divine Powder Blush in the shades Lovestruck and Paradise Venus were used. The same Skin Fetish Highlighter and Balm Duo was used but in the shade Bronze. And for the lips, MatteTrance Lipstick in the shade Venus in Furs was the primary color used.
And that’s it! I am sure I will have more to say as Queen Charlotte and Season 3 come out. Let me know if there’s someone’s look in Bridgerton you’d like to know more about! And check my Instagram to see me do Penelope and Kate’s makeup using all of these products!
Pro Tips
The higher the sun, the less makeup. Once night falls and rooms are softly lit, you can get away with a lot more product on your face. Moon out, highlighter it up and glitter bomb your self if that’s what pleases you.
